Open Position: Arise Church (UMC) Music Director Background Arise Church is a United Methodist congregation located in Pinckney, MI (20 minutes northwest of Ann Arbor, MI). Our mission is “calling others to follow Jesus, participate in a welcoming community, and transform the world with Good News.” Arise Church was planted in 1996, and is proudly affiliated with the United Methodist Church. Arise Church currently has 1 worship service (10:00am Sundays), which blends traditional and contemporary elements. We sing both hymns and modern choruses. We have a relaxed atmosphere, yet we are tethered to liturgical practices. Our current attendance is 55 in-person worshippers (on average) and many more watching online. We are in a season of change at Arise. We’ve recently welcomed a new pastor and now we are looking for a new music director. We are excited about what God has in store for Arise Church in 2024. There’s a lot of momentum at Arise and we are looking for the right fit to lead us musically, in worship, in the days and years ahead! Hours & Compensation 10 hours per week. Compensation based on skill and experience. Requirements • Proven excellence as a skilled pianist (vocal ability is a plus!) • Basic understanding of Wesleyan & United Methodist teaching and theology • Working knowledge of traditional and contemporary worship forms • Outstanding written and oral communication skills • Bachelor’s degree desired (degree in music is a plus!) • Proficiency in computer skills (google docs, etc) • Obvious interpersonal skills—both a team player and a team builder Responsibilities • Work in conjunction with the pastor in preparation for Sunday worship • Lead practice for praise team in preparation for Sunday • Lead Sunday morning rehearsal before the 10:00 AM service • Lead all Sunday musical aspects of worship service, primarily as a pianist • Schedule, recruit, and train and and all volunteer vocalists and musicians • Music accompaniment for funerals and weddings (additional compensation) The music director reports to the pastor and the staff-parish relations chair.
