JOB GOAL: To oversee the entire church Music program including develop and direct the Chancel Choir and Traditional Worship Service as well as provide primary leadership for the Wide Open Worship Service (modern worship). Additionally, oversee other seasonal worship gatherings at PCFUMC. REPORTS TO: Senior Pastor QUALIFICATIONS: - Faith and Commitment: Strong personal faith and alignment with the church's mission, values, and doctrinal beliefs. - Musical Expertise: Formal education in music or equivalent experience, proficiency in both contemporary and traditional music styles, as well as knowledge of music theory and arrangement. Familiarity with the United Methodist Hymnal. - Experience: Previous experience in leading contemporary and traditional music programs in a church or similar setting. - Leadership Skills: Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills to coordinate diverse music programs and collaborate effectively with volunteers and staff. - Adaptability: Ability to navigate between contemporary and traditional music styles, accommodating the preferences and needs of a diverse congregation. - Technical Proficiency: Comfort with music technology, sound systems, and other equipment related to music production and presentation. - Team Player: A collaborative mindset, flexibility, and a passion for creating worshipful atmosphere through music in both traditional and modern settings. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: The Music Director should possess the flexibility and skill to curate and direct music that resonates with the distinct worship styles of both the contemporary and traditional services. This is a vital role in enhancing the spiritual atmosphere, fostering community through music, and supporting the worship experience within the church across various worship settings. Distinct worship services are held on alternating weeks; contemporary (modern) worship in the Beacon and traditional worship in the Sanctuary. AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY: 1. General - Lead and Direct Music Ministry: Direct both contemporary and traditional music components of the church's music ministry, ensuring an inclusive worship experience. - Select and Arrange Music: Choose appropriate hymns, songs, and musical arrangements for both contemporary and traditional worship services. Select music in keeping with United Methodist theology as outlined in the UMC Book of Discipline. - Conduct Rehearsals: Lead rehearsals for the church choir, bands, ensembles, and vocalists involved in both contemporary and traditional music programs. Separate rehearsals are held for the Praise Band (contemporary worship) and the Choir (traditional worship). - Collaboration: Work closely with the Pastors, Worship Team, and other staff members to plan and coordinate music for various church services, special events, and outreach activities. Assist with special services, such as Ash Wednesday and Holy Week Services as determined by the Senior Pastor. - Volunteer Management: Recruit, train, and develop volunteer musicians, vocalists, and worship leaders for both contemporary and traditional music ministries. - Manage the music budget effectively, select and purchase music materials and resources, and oversee the maintenance of musical instruments and equipment. - Enhance Worship Experience: Collaborate with church leaders to create a worship environment that engages and inspires the congregation, catering to diverse musical preferences and worship styles in two (2) separate worship services. - Professional Development: Stay informed about current trends in church music, worship practices, and technology to continually enhance the quality and relevance of the music ministry. 2. Traditional Worship (Choir Director) - Hold weekly choir rehearsals and direct choir on Traditional Worship Sundays in the month. - Coordinate with the preaching pastor, along with the musical accompanist(s), for selection of music for preludes, postludes, offertory and special music, and hymns. -Purchase or otherwise obtain music for the choir. -Supervise and provide direction to the accompanist(s). 3. WOW Worship Leadership - Provide instrumental and vocal leadership to WOW including the incorporation of volunteers into the service and preparation of audio/visual liturgical elements of the service. -Work with the pastors to plan and lead WOW. - Help in the design of audio/visual elements for worship. - Learn sound and lighting systems and presentation software in the Beacon. 4. Administration - Communicate with the Church Administrator any hymn numbers, names of music, or other details related to music by the Wednesday prior to the service, so that materials may be prepared in a timely manner. - Communicate all relevant information to all volunteers who participate in worship. - Provide advice and coordinate with the Worship Committee as necessary. - Attend weekly staff meetings, if available; attend quarterly planning meetings and worship team meetings. - Assist with other duties as needed and required by the Senior Pastor/Associate Pastor and the SPRC. - Ensure that all practices are in compliance with the adopted Safe Sanctuary policies and procedures. PERSONAL ATTRIBUTES: - Musical proficiency in playing instruments and leading vocal groups. - Strong leadership and teamwork skills to work effectively with volunteers and staff. - Growing relationship with Jesus Christ (and ability to express such). - Passion for the church to be a transforming presence in the world. - Excellent communication and organizational skills.
