The Great Falls Symphony Association welcomes applications through October 20, 2024 for the position of Music Director. The start date for the selected candidate will be July 1, 2026 (2026-2027 season). The search process shall take place during the 2024-2025 and 2025-2026 seasons. POSITION OVERVIEW The Music Director of the Great Falls Symphony is responsible for guiding and shaping the artistic direction of the organization. The Music Director reports directly to the Board of Directors and is responsible for the fulfillment of the orchestra’s artistic potential and its image in the community. They are responsible for the repertoire, programming, and artistic production of the Symphony. As the orchestra’s artistic leader, they must build and sustain the orchestra’s visibility, relevancy, community connection, and act as a principal fundraiser for the organization. The Music Director is expected to work closely with the Executive Director, the Board of Directors, and staff in carrying out these responsibilities. ABOUT The Great Falls Symphony, incorporated in 1959, is a dynamic and vibrant cultural organization dedicated to making Great Falls a better place to live through music. The Great Falls Symphony Association includes a sixty-five-member professional orchestra, an eighty-member symphonic choir, a resident chamber ensemble and a youth orchestra program. The Great Falls Symphony Orchestra performs between nine and twelve concerts per year, including three educational concerts for youth. The Symphonic Choir is in an integral part of the programming throughout the season and regularly performs with the Orchestra. The Cascade Quartet (resident string chamber ensemble) regularly performs as part of the Chamber Music Series Additionally, the ensemble serves the organization with outreach, education and other support services. The Great Falls Youth Orchestra program supports a full orchestra, a string orchestra, and between ten and twenty chamber ensembles. Approximately one hundred talented young musicians between fifth and twelfth grade from Great Falls and surrounding areas participate in these programs every year. These components offer a rich and diverse mix of programs that reach up to 40,000 people annually. The Great Falls Symphony is governed by a volunteer board of directors and is supported by a professional administrative staff. The Great Falls Symphony Association’s current operating budget is approximately $1 million with an endowment currently worth $2.5 million.
