For more information about this department, visit: https://www.csus.edu/college/arts-letters/music/ POSITION DETAILS: The School of Music at Sacramento State seeks applications for a full-time lecturer position as Director of Marching & Athletic Bands. This is a temporary lectureship with a start date of August 23, 2023. This full-time, temporary, non-tenure-track appointment, which is not a probationary position, will have an initial appointment for one year and will terminate at the end of the 2023/24 academic year, and does not establish consideration for subsequent appointments or any further appointment rights. However, this lectureship may be renewed annually dependent upon satisfactory performance, curricular needs, student enrollment, and budgetary considerations. A decision concerning extension of the appointment will be made at the end of the first year and annually thereafter. Initial rank and salary for lecturer faculty are based on professional and/or teaching experience and educational background and are determined by the hiring department. Most new lecturers are hired at the Lecturer A or B rank. As of July 2022, the classification salary ranges for the respective ranks are: Lecturer A: $4,530-$6,056 Lecturer B: $5,406-$11,994 Lecturer C: $6,190-$13,172 Lecturer D: $7,794-$13,797 JOB DUTIES: Design the elements and teach the Marching Band's presentations in pregame and halftime performances at football games and special events • Direct the Pep Band, Winter Percussion group, and the Winter Guard • Active recruiting at Sacramento State, high schools, and community colleges • Administration of marching and athletic band program • Develop/sustain marching/athletic bands, management of budgets and equipment, fund-raising, grant-writing, and touring REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: • Earned master's degree in music (M.A. or M.M.) or equivalent experience • Three years Marching Band teaching experience at high school or collegiate level • Strong background as a creative designer marching band director with demonstrable potential to teach successfully at the collegiate level • Ability to work with a diverse student population and to embrace cultural diversity in their work • Demonstrated ability to collaborate with faculty and staff colleagues PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: • Record of success at marching band competitions • Experience as an innovative and skilled instructor of record at the collegiate level • Evidence of ability and interest in student recruitment and community outreach • Experience with administrative duties, budget managing, travel, logistics, and fundraising APPLICANT INSTRUCTIONS: Review of applications begins on June 5, 2023; position remains open until filled.
