Job Description

POSITION: Contemporary Band Leader SUPERVISOR: Music Ministry Coordinator STATUS: Part Time FLSA: NON-EXEMPT EFFECTIVE: ASAP JOB SUMMARY: This position serves as contemporary music leader for the Connections Praise Team and other contemporary music groups. Works closely with the Music Ministry Coordinator to develop the music program in order to reflect the mission of the church and appropriately convey its message. Coordinates music selection with pastor for weekly services. ESSENTIAL DUTIES: · Provide appropriate music for regular and seasonal worship services. · Schedule rehearsals for Connections band providing music for regularly scheduled worship services and special occasion worship services. · Recruit, train, supervise, and nurture volunteer musicians, accompanists, and other leaders of all music ministry groups in the church. · Arrange for budgeting and purchase of needed music and music-related supplies. · Ensure that all music-related materials and information, including streaming licenses, are ready for bulletin printing. · Ensure that slides for projection of words on screen are prepared for worship. · Serve with the pastor and other leaders in the planning of worship services. · Attend meetings of music council including Praise Team, Worship Committee, and others as appropriate for music ministry. · Coordinate maintenance of the Praise Worship instruments. QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE: · Previous experience playing in a contemporary praise music worship band required. Leadership experience preferred. · Knowledge of truly current contemporary worship music required. Familiarity with 90s and 2000’s repertoire expected. · Ability to collaborate with Music Ministry Coordinator, Pastor and Band members required. Must be responsive to congregational feedback. · Needs to be able to encourage and teach volunteer musicians in necessary musical skills. Be able to creatively adapt to the reality and strengths of current group, as well as work towards future developmental goals. (ie. If lacking a lead singer, choose ensemble style songs) · Problem solving skills, particularly around technical issues, desired. · Must be responsive to communication outside of rehearsal and worship times through text, email or phone. · A passion for music. · Patient, creative, and assertive. · All staff will successfully pass a background check and complete ongoing Safe Sanctuary® training as prescribed by the United Methodist Church.
