Job Description

Grace Presbyterian Church (PCUSA) in Plano, Texas is seeking a Church Organist/Collaborative Pianist, whose principal duties include playing the 2017 A.E. Schlueter 3-manual pipe organ for worship services as well as serving as collaborative pianist for the church’s choral ensembles. Grace’s thriving music ministry consists of a 60-voice adult choir, youth choir, 5 handbell choirs, contemporary praise band, and graded children's choirs. The church has traditional, contemporary, and blended worship services. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: 1. Selects (in cooperation with the Director of Music Ministries), rehearses and plays appropriate keyboard music for each service of worship. 2. Prepares and performs adequately for all concerts, major works, and other special services. 3. Provides and/or assists in planning appropriate music for weddings and funerals as requested, Additional compensation arranged. 4. Provides accompaniment for adult and youth choir rehearsals. Rehearses with soloists and other musicians as needed. 5. Provides accompaniment for children’s choirs when present in worship and attends rehearsal prior to their Sunday performance. 6. Arranges for a substitute organist/pianist during periods of absence from the Church. 7. Rehearses sufficiently for optimum performance of the music selected and for optimum use of the instrument, adding meditation, invigoration and joy to service music. 8. Arranges for ongoing appropriate maintenance on all keyboard instruments. 9. Provides accompaniment for yearly youth choir tour. Expenses for room, board, travel and entertainment will be covered by the Church, and additional compensation provided. 10. Other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Director of Music Ministries. Qualifications/Skills: Bachelor of Music required, Advanced degree preferred, and 1. Proficiency in the selection and performance of keyboard music. 2. Professes the Christian faith and projects a favorable image to Church members and visitors. 3. Open to using the musical repertoire of the Reformed tradition. 4. Ability to work flexibly and in a cooperative manner under the supervision of the Director of Music Ministries. 5. Possesses a positive attitude and strong interpersonal skills, especially sensitivity and concern for others. 6. Three or more years experience as a church organist.
