Band Director - High School and Middle Schools Seeking an Energetic Band Director for High School (grades 8-12) and Middle School (grades 5-7). Includes Marching Band. Small school of 185 with 60 students in the band program. 11 month contract with additional supplement. Very well funded with supportive administration. Arts are very supported within the community. Beautiful mountain community with lots of recreation opportunities. Specific duties and expectations: Middle School band grades 5-7. Band begins in 5th grade. Middle school band meets 2-3 days per week for 35 minutes. High School Band meets daily on a 7 period day (approx. 50 minutes daily). Concert band, marching band, and jazz band. Marching band has a summer band camp away at Grace Bible Camp in Goshen July 16-22, 2023, then Tuesday/Thursday evening rehearsals until school begins. Very small school with lots of band participation. Because it is a small school, once school starts in the fall, marching band rehearses in class and on Fridays after school (unless extra rehearsals are scheduled). Students play sports and participate in band due to low school numbers. There is a great relationship between AD, coaches, and band director so all students can participate. Great communication is crucial to a successful program. Students transition to concert band in the winter. Middle school and high school students participate in All Area and District Band. The band plays often for community events and the community is very supportive of the band program and arts in general. The band was given a great deal of money through a willed donation and there is a board set up to allocate money for instruments, etc. The band director is the executive on the board with supportive band members that are almost exclusively for band parents. The band travels yearly due to its mountain top location. The band has competed in Bands of America events and traveled across the country to perform at the Statue of Liberty, Magic Kingdom, Lincoln Memorial, and various other locations. This major focuses of this band program are joy, passion, performance, and family. Assist students in learning the subject matter and skills that will contribute to their development as mature, able and responsible individuals. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. other duties may be assigned. 1. Meets and instructs at the times designated. 2. Plans a program of instruction that meets the individual needs, interests, and abilities of the students. 3. Makes data driven instructional decisions and implements best classroom practices. 4. Communicates with special education staff and collaborates in designing and implementing individual student plans. 5. Creates a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and approaches to the maturity and interests of the students. 6. Prepares for students assigned and demonstrates written evidence of preparation upon request of immediate supervisor. 7. Encourages students to set and maintain standards of classroom behavior. 8. Guides the learning process toward the achievement of curriculum goals (including the Virginia Standards of Learning) and, in congruency with those goals, establishes clear objectives for all lessons, units, and projects to communicate said objectives to students. 9. Employs a variety of instructional techniques, technology and instructional media, consistent with the physical limitations of the location provided and the needs and capabilities of the individuals or student groups involved. 10. Strives to implement by instruction and action the division's philosophy of education and instructional goals and objectives. 11. Assesses the accomplishments of students on a regular basis and provides progress reports as required. 12. Diagnoses the instructional needs of students on a regular basis, seeking the assistance of division specialists as required. 13. Provides student supervision, as assigned, before, after, and during school hours, and takes all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities. 14. Maintains accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, division policy, and administrative procedures. 15. Assists the administration in implementing all policies and rules governing student life and conduct, and, for the classroom, develops reasonable rules of classroom behavior and procedure, and maintains order in the classroom in a fair and just manner. 16. Makes provision for being available to students and parents for education-related purposes outside the instructional day when required or requested. 17. Plans and supervises purposeful assignments for educational assistants and/or volunteers(s). 18.
