Band Director job at Mill Springs Academy. Alpharetta, GA. Responsibilities ? Direct and manage the overall program of instrumental music for the school. ? Establish and maintain open communication with parents, students, principals, and teachers. ? Maintain professional relationship with colleagues, students, parents, and community members. ? Plan concert music each semester. ? Direct instrumental performers. ? Recommend policies to improve program. ? Ensure that programs are cost-effective and funds are managed wisely. ? Compile budgets and cost estimates based on documented program needs. ? Maintain current inventory of all fixed assets within department. ? Oversee process of cleaning, repairing, and storing all band equipment. ? Develop and implement plans for instrumental music program and show written evidence of preparation as required. ? Prepare lessons that reflect accommodations for individual student differences. ? Plan and use appropriate instructional and learning strategies, activities, materials, and equipment that reflect understanding of the learning styles and needs of students assigned. ? Conduct ongoing assessments of student achievement through formal and informal process. ? Create an environment conducive to learning and appropriate for the physical, social, and emotional development of students. ? Be available for coverage for any faculty absence. ? Maintain prompt and professional communication with parents. ? Perform other duties as assigned by the Fine Arts Director or Administration. ? Report directly to the Fine Arts Director and works closely with the other members of the Fine Arts Faculty. ? Keep the Fine Arts Director current on all communications with parents or teachers concerning student performance, behavior, or any other issues that arise. ? Provide feedback to parents about each student in class to maintain effective, open communication about student progress and behavior. ? Participate in student/parent conferences as needed. ? Coordinate with the Fine Arts Director regarding curriculum development. ? Individually develop, revise, and teach curriculum for classes currently offered. ? Maintain both an office/studio/classroom space, as well as assist with the larger theater space. Essence of the Job Essential Functions: ? Instruct — Teaching others how to do something. ? Establish and enforce rules for behavior and procedures for maintaining order among the students for whom they are responsible. ? Observe and evaluate students' performance, behavior, social development, and physical health. ? Prepare materials and classrooms for class activities. ? Adapt teaching methods and instructional materials to meet students' varying needs and interests. ? Plan and conduct activities for a balanced program of instruction, demonstration, and work time that provides students with opportunities to observe, question, and investigate. ? Instruct students individually and in groups, using various teaching methods such as lectures, discussions, and demonstrations. ? Establish clear objectives for all lessons, units, and projects and communicate those objectives to students. ? Assign and grade classwork and homework. ? Prepare, administer, and grade tests and assignments to evaluate students' progress. ? Attending division and school-wide faculty meetings. ? Attending Professional development training as directed by supervisor. ? One to three years experience in special education is preferred but not required ? Experience teaching students with learning disabilities and an understanding of different learning styles and skill levels. ? Show willingness to gain more knowledge regarding special needs of our students. ? Highly creative, flexible, and innovative teaching style that engages all types of learners. ? Must be a team-player and able to build positive working relationships with colleagues. ? Superior communication skills (both written and oral). ? Must be organized in planning/execution of lessons. ? Must be organized with instruments/materials in studio. ? Must have positive approach of classroom management.
