Columbus East Head Instrumental Music Director POSITION TITLE: High School Band and Orchestra Director QUALIFICATIONS: Must hold proper state certification Minimum 5 Year’s of Experience REPORTS TO: Principal TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: 180 Day Contract. Also 206 hours during the summer to work with the 6th Grade Band, 7th & 8th Grade Band as well as the High School Marching Band. Essential Job Functions • Develop students' technique for playing brass, woodwind, and percussion instruments and cover appropriate band literature styles for school and competitive performances. • Design and implement a wide variety of appropriate instructional activities for students of varying abilities and talents in an inclusive environment. • Evaluate student achievement and adjust instruction accordingly. • Teach a variety of vastly different skills on different instruments simultaneously. • Effectively manage large classes of students. • Organize and maintain a large inventory of equipment. • Organize and maintain a large inventory of instructional materials and music library. • Plan logistics and transportation for events outside of school for community and school connections. • Plan and organize concerts and other public performances. • Supervise large groups of students in activities outside of school hours and off campus. • Manage fundraising for instrumental program. • Responsible for budgeted and fundraised money accounts. • Maintain appropriate licenses and training hours as required. • Comply with applicable District, state, local and federal laws, rules and regulations. • Manage and work with band parent organization. • Assist with recruitment, selection, training, supervision, and evaluation of assistant band director(s). • Direct the “Pit Orchestra” for the school musicals • Maintain membership in ISSMA and BOA. • Other duties as assigned, e.g., “American Pie,” Brown Scholarship contests, local parades, etc. Other Job Functions Abide by state statutes, school board policies and regulations. Attend meetings and performs duties as assigned by administrators or supervisors. Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities. Maintain accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, district policy and administrative regulation. Serve on committees as assigned. Remain current on instructional practices in education. (e.g. instructional technology) Teaching Load This is shared position with Central Middle School and Columbus East High School The classes at Central are 7th grade Band, 8th grade Band and Strings.
