Jackson Preparatory School Jackson Preparatory School in Flowood, MS, seeks an innovative, expert band instructor to fill the position of Band Director. The Band Director will work with and report directly to the Director of Performing Arts. S/he will work closely with academic and administrative staff across the campus and with the Applause parent group. The Band Director will lead students in the spiritual, educational, and artistic aspects of fulfilling Jackson Prep's mission "to inspire and challenge students toward academic, athletic, and artistic excellence, instill personal integrity through biblical values, and equip students to pursue lives of distinction in service to society.” Essential Duties and Responsibilities The Band Director will: • Coordinate and oversee all aspects of the Band program (grades 5-12) including curriculum development, organization, and implementation of all rehearsals and performances during the school year. • Prepare all instrumental ensembles for participation at required events, including concerts, football games, pep rallies, MAIS contests, and community events. • Organize and direct the marching band and drumline for all home, away, and playoff football games. • Establish performance requirements, enforce academic requirements, and verify student eligibility for participation. • Create a positive learning environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the students' maturity, interests, and learning styles. • Work with Lower School administration to develop programs for Lower School (PreK3-Grade 4) students. • Participate in the Fall Musical, including conducting the orchestra and involving student musicals where appropriate. • Teach classes and/or perform other duties as assigned by the school administration. • Utilize effective and professional oral and written communication skills. • Maintain professional development as a licensed educator. • Attend all school faculty meetings and scheduled professional development sessions. • Follow the Jackson Prep calendar and policies. The Band Director will motivate students to develop an interest in and appreciation of the arts. The ideal candidate will be an experienced leader who will be required to oversee the band program and should possess the following qualifications and skills: • Bachelor's or Master's degree in music education • 5 or more years of experience as a Band Director • Exceptional interpersonal skills demonstrating the ability to respond thoughtfully and decisively to the diverse needs of faculty, students, and their families. • Excellent work ethic, modeling respect, honesty, and integrity. • Ability to follow Jackson Prep policies. • Familiarity with current technology and social media tools; Jackson Prep is a Google school.
