Position Details Director of the School for Classical & Contemporary Dance The School for Classical & Contemporary Dance in the College of Fine Arts at Texas Christian University invites applications for the position of Associate/Full Professor of Dance and Director of the School for Classical & Contemporary Dance (SCCDance). The Director serves as the senior administrator of the academic unit and reports to the Dean of the College of Fine Arts. The position requires in-person on-campus teaching at the undergraduate level in studio and/or lecture classes. The position start date is in summer 2024. The Director will: • provide academic and artistic leadership for all instructional and creative/scholarly activities and ensure that the goals and objectives of the School, College, and University are appropriate and properly implemented; • manage budgets and financial resources and oversee the administration of the unit’s facilities; • oversee faculty and staff recruitment, retention, mentoring, and professional development and make recommendations on hiring to the Dean; • oversee the promotion and tenure process, recommend merit raises, and review the performance of instructional and support staff; • assign faculty course loads and the scheduling of classes; • facilitate and manage program development, assessment, curricula, and accreditation activities; • develop and oversee activities related to recruitment, auditions, admissions, and retention of students; serve as faculty advisor and support student orientation; • collaborate with faculty, staff, and students on diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives, • work with faculty to maintain and facilitate guest artist program; • positively represent the School to the University and the public and build community partnerships and professional relationships; • work with the Dean on advancement and fundraising initiatives; • teach regularly in studio and/or lecturer courses; • maintain a record of scholarly and/or creative activity, advising / mentoring, and service. Department Details: The School for Classical & Contemporary Dance (SCCDance) was founded in 1949 and offers three BFA degrees dedicated to conservatory-style depth inside a liberal arts education. DanceTCU offers seven distinct productions each academic year, welcomes numerous guest artists, collaborates across disciplines, and pursues unique opportunities that support student professional and educational development. SCCDance alumni are performers, choreographers, artistic directors, arts administrators, educators, program developers, studio owners, designers, dance therapists, dance photographers, and more. Students must apply to TCU through the Office of Undergraduate Admission in addition to applying to the SCCDance. An audition for entrance to the SCCDance is required. The SCCDance offers dance merit scholarships for students who qualify through audition. Approximately 75 percent of dance majors at TCU hold dance scholarships. Many dance majors also hold academic scholarships and may qualify for grant aid. Required Application Materials & Application Instructions: Required: • Terminal degree or ten+ years of professional experience in dance • Record of effective undergraduate teaching (5 years minimum) • Experience in mentorship across various demographics and levels of students and faculty • Experience representing and promoting Dance to other fields and constituencies within and beyond the university Preferred: • Terminal degree: MFA or PhD; • Record of success in providing mentorship to faculty and students of all levels and ranks, especially those of underrepresented/underserved groups; • Experience with related administrative responsibilities (budgets, records, reporting, programs, assessment); • Success in working with and bringing together different areas and constituencies of Dance and Dance Studies; • Experience in program-building or administrative roles through related positions or appointments (e.g. Associate Dean, Associate Chair, Department Chair, Program Director) • Experience in producing, artistic direction, and/or program curation in Dance.
