Department: Department of Music Department's Website: https://fulbright.uark.edu/departments/music/ensembles/band/ Summary of Job Duties: The Department of Music in the Fulbright College of Arts and Sciences at the University of Arkansas, invites applications for a non-tenure track Teaching Assistant Professor in Music to act as the Associate Director of Bands and Director of the Razorback Marching Band to start July 5, 2023. This is a twelve-month appointment. We are seeking a dynamic, creative teacher with a strong commitment to student success and diversity. The Associate Director of Bands will conduct the Wind Symphony (one of five ensembles in the band area), direct the Razorback Marching Band, and teach conducting and/or music education courses in the Department of Music. Duties will include: 1. Direct and administer all aspects of the 350-member Razorback Marching Band. 2. Conduct the Symphonic Band. 3. Other teaching opportunities based on area of expertise and experience as assigned by the Chair of the Department of Music and Director of Bands. 4. Collaborate with band faculty in all aspects of a comprehensive band program including teaching, conducting, recruitment, and administration. Regular, reliable, and non-disruptive attendance is an essential job duty, as is the ability to create and maintain collegial, harmonious working relationships with others. Qualifications: Minimum Qualifications: With submitted materials, the candidate must demonstrate. • DMA, Ph.D., or equivalent terminal degree in a related field conferred by start of employment • Must have a minimum of five years of successful teaching experience • Demonstrated excellence as an instrumental music teacher and conductor Preferred Qualifications: • A combination of five years of public school and university teaching experience is preferred • Demonstrated excellence as an instrumental music teacher and conductor at the university level • Excellent communication and organizational skills • Experience in a large comprehensive university band program and active involvement with highly visible athletic bands • Drill design experience and/or marching band arranging is preferred Additional Information: APPLICATION INSTRUCTIONS: Completed applications received by 3/27/2023 will be assured full consideration.
