Full job description NOTRE DAME COLLEGE PREP BAND DIRECTOR JOB DESCRIPTION : The Band Director is appointed by the Principal and serves under the direct supervision of the Department Chairperson. The Band Director exercises a leadership role for school music activities and music education programs. Responsibilities of the Band Director involve the establishment of a learning climate within the classroom and school that integrates Gospel values with sound instructional pedagogy. EXPECTATIONS : • 7:15 am to 3:00 pm – 10 months per year, other hours as needed to fulfill accountabilities • The teacher will teach up to five periods in the school day rotation during the regular school year • The teacher will supervise during one other period per day during the regular school year • The Band Director will supervise and/or attend occasional student, parent, and other events throughout the year • The Band Director will support the Liturgical Ensemble • The Band Director will engage a marching, concert and pep band program ACCOUNTABILITIES : Specific accountabilities shall include, but not be limited to: • Demonstrating knowledge of the mission and philosophy of Notre Dame College Prep and support in incorporating and communicating its vision. • Providing professional instructional leadership within the classroom through carefully prepared and planned lessons, and developing a positive classroom environment. • Establishing and executing clearly stated expectations for student behavior and classroom management. • Providing appropriately differentiated instruction to students of varying ability levels. • Utilizing data to inform instruction and assessment. • Carrying out all assigned supervisory duties with care and professional concern. • Working collaboratively within the department to establish departmental goals and objectives. • Actively participating in the process of curriculum mapping and development. • Communicating with counseling staff regarding students who are suspected of having mental health or substance use issues. • Actively participating in department and faculty meetings and collaborative learning. • Serving as an after school proctor as assigned by the Dean of Students where applicable. • Developing improved use of technology and technology assessment for students. • Utilizing a 1:1 technology resource for teaching and learning. • Utilizing technology in appropriate manners to deliver content and assess learning. • Maintaining open communication with administration regarding specific issues involving students, parents, staff, and the community, as well as program development. • Directing high school instrumental performers, such as marching band, orchestra, concert band, soloists, and ensembles. • Developing and implementing a summer music preparation program. • Establishing performance requirements, enforcing academic requirements, and verifying each student’s eligibility to participate in band. • Providing for band participation at extracurricular events, including concerts, festivals, various athletic events, pep rallies, parades, and other appropriate Notre Dame activities. • Overseeing band booster club, and supporting band booster club activities. • Ensuring that programs are cost-effective and funds are managed wisely. • Compiling budgets and cost estimates based on documented program needs. • Coordinating fundraising activities and managing funds. • Maintaining current inventory of all fixed assets within the department. • Overseeing the process of cleaning, repairing, and storing all band equipment. • Developing and implementing plans for instrumental music programs. • Accompanying and supervising students on out-of-town trips. • Taking all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities. • Continuing professional self-development. Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Bachelor degree in content area or teaching in that content area, excellent communication skills, an energetic and outgoing personality, strong administrative/organizational skills, and familiarity with 1:1 technology, Google for Education, and basic computing are essential. Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Master degree in music, performing arts, a related field, or education; experience in secondary education, and experience in a Catholic school setting are preferred. Physical Working Conditions : Must be able to lift light weight objects (1 to 10 pounds) with no repetitive bending or stooping. Occasionally lift average weight objects (10 to 20 pounds). Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer. Salary and Benefits: Salary will be provided according to experience and education as dictated by salary scale.
