The ideal candidate for the combined role of Theater Arts and Band Teacher will inspire students to appreciate and enjoy performing arts, gain confidence and public speaking skills through acting, and learn instrumental performance skills in our band clubs and electives. The teacher in this role will be expected to differentiate instruction, meet diverse student needs, and foster relationships with students, parents, and colleagues while demonstrating high professional standards and a growth mindset. Our Performing Arts Department boasts a dedicated team, including a full-time Theater Arts Director, Music Teacher/Choral Director, and is committed to nurturing the creative talents of our students. Requirements: • Open to teaching both band and theater with experience leading children in band and directing/staging large, musical theater productions • Experience conducting and arranging music for all levels of learners • Able to perform and instruct at minimum the clarinet, flute, trumpet and drums • Success in teaching in a private or public elementary or middle school • Familiarity with best practices for elementary/middle school learners • Ability to implement differentiated instruction • Commitment to Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging (DEIB) • Promotion of 21st Century Skills • Integration of technology in teaching • Collaborative work style • Evidence of ongoing professional development • Personal characteristics: passion for working with children, optimism, flexibility, patience, joyfulness, and sense of humor • Bachelor’s degree in Music, Theater, Education or related field Band Responsibilities: • Develop, teach and direct an Elementary & Middle School Band program • Plans, rehearses and directs bands in all performances and concerts • Recruits students to build a band program • Plans a balanced band curriculum, selects and arranges appropriate music • Organizes class time so that preparation, rehearsal, and instruction can be accomplished in allotted time • Lead middle school band/music electives Theater Arts Responsibilities: • Collaborate with Performing Arts department colleagues to select appropriate scripts/shows • Co-teach Theater Arts class - directing/choreographing full scale musicals • Editing scripts in order to individualize casting opportunities • Assist with Theater Arts auditions • Create detailed rehearsal schedules and daily scene work/staging plans for 5-7 productions each year • Organize auditions and technical elements • Implement innovative teaching methods and classroom management • Support students' social-emotional learning • Act as a role model for students • Assist with set/costume building and tech needs (sound design) • Participate in school events • Other duties as assigned Preferred Qualifications: • Technical expertise in Theater/Performing Arts, such as sound equipment, sound editing, and lighting • Competence in teaching Theater Arts, Band, Music, Dance • Understanding of Positive Discipline approach for social-emotional learning • Experience with Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging (DEIB) • Teaching credential or equivalent education degree Teachers at Almaden Country Day School are expected to differentiate instruction and meet a wide range of student abilities, needs, and readiness levels.
